Calorie tracker for intermittent fasting

Intermittent fasting works because compressing your eating window typically reduces total calories — not because of metabolic magic. To get the benefit, you still need to know what you ate during the window.

CalPilot has a built-in fasting timer (16:8, 18:6, OMAD, 5:2) plus the fast logging that makes squeezing 2,000 kcal into a 6-hour window practical to track.

Why tracking actually helps here

  • IF only works if you don't overcompensate during the eating window
  • Compressed eating means bigger meals — easier to misjudge portions without tracking
  • Protein needs to fit into a smaller window — distribution matters
  • Hydration during fasting period is critical — track water intake
  • Breaking the fast strategically (protein first) preserves the IF benefit

How CalPilot helps

Fasting timer

16:8, 18:6, 20:4, OMAD, 5:2 — pick a protocol or set custom. Visual countdown plus daily streak tracking.

Eating window logging

Meals only log during your window. Anything logged outside flags as 'breaks fast' so you see the impact.

Big-meal photo logging

OMAD and 18:6 protocols mean 1–2 large meals to track. Photo logging handles complex plates better than search-and-pick.

Recommended setup

Aggressive
18:6 or OMAD
Beginner

Tips that actually help

Break with protein

Breaking a fast with protein (eggs, Greek yogurt, chicken) preserves the satiety benefit. Breaking with refined carbs spikes hunger and undoes the IF effect.

Don't extend windows arbitrarily

Longer fasts aren't strictly better. 16:8 captures most benefits. 24+ hour fasts add complexity without much marginal gain for most people.

FAQ

Does black coffee break my fast?
No, for typical IF goals (weight management, satiety). Coffee with cream, MCT oil, or sugar substitutes is debated — strict autophagy fasts treat them as breaking. CalPilot lets you set your own definition.
