Logging takes 3 seconds.

No barcode hunts. No portion guessing games. No 14-step manual entry. Just point, talk, or tap.

01

Snap a photo

Point at your plate. AI identifies foods, estimates portions, and computes calories — including mixed dishes like burritos or salads.

02

Or just speak

"Two slices of pepperoni pizza and a Diet Coke." Voice logging works while driving, walking, or hands-deep in actual cooking.

03

See your day update

Calories, protein, carbs, fat — instantly. Adjust portions in one tap if the AI got it wrong. Streak unlocks automatically.

Built so you actually log.

Most people drop their tracker by week 3. Trace is engineered around the only thing that matters: keeping logging fast enough that you'll do it tomorrow.

Snap-to-log AI

Point at a plate. Get calories, macros, and portion in 3 seconds. Works on home cooking, restaurant food, and packaged snacks.

Voice logging

Talk to your phone. "Two slices of pizza and a beer" turns into a perfectly tracked meal. Hands-free, eyes-free.

Smart macros

Protein, carbs, fat, fiber — broken down for every meal. Set goals for cutting, bulking, or maintenance.

500K+ foods

Restaurant menus, branded products, raw ingredients. The full database — searchable, sortable, ranked by what people in your city actually eat.

Streaks that stick

A 7-day streak builds the habit. A 30-day streak rewires it. Trace tracks consistency, not just calories.

Privacy by default

Photos are processed and discarded. Your log is encrypted. Export or delete everything in one tap.

Honest answers.

Everything you'd ask before downloading.

How accurate is the AI photo recognition?
For single-ingredient or restaurant-style dishes, accuracy lands within 10–15% of actual calories — comparable to a human estimating from sight. For complex mixed dishes (stews, casseroles), the AI asks one clarifying question (oil amount, portion size) to lock the number in. You can always tap to adjust before saving.
Is Trace free?
Yes — download and try it free. The free tier covers daily logging, photo + voice input, and a full food database. Trace Pro adds unlimited photo logs, custom macro targets, weekly nutrition reports, and Apple Health / Google Fit sync.
How is this different from MyFitnessPal?
MyFitnessPal still asks you to type, search, and pick a portion size for every meal — even after 15 years. Trace is photo-and-voice first. You log a meal in 3 seconds instead of 30. The food database is comparable in size; the friction is what we removed.
Can I track macros, not just calories?
Yes. Every logged meal breaks down into protein, carbs, fat, and fiber. Set custom macro targets (e.g., 180g protein for muscle gain) and the app shows daily progress on each. Sugar, saturated fat, and sodium are tracked too.
Does it work offline?
Voice and photo logs require a quick internet roundtrip to the AI. Manual search and viewing your logged history work fully offline. We're shipping on-device photo recognition in 2026.
Will my data stay private?
Photos are processed and discarded — never stored long-term, never used for training. Your meal log is end-to-end encrypted on our servers. You can export or delete everything in one tap from settings.
Can I sync with Apple Health or Google Fit?
Yes, both. Calories burned import automatically; calories eaten export back to Health/Fit. Weight from Apple Watch and steps both factor into your daily target.
What if the AI gets it wrong?
Tap and adjust. The portion slider, ingredient swap, and recipe-aware editing all take 2 seconds. Each correction makes the model better at recognizing your future meals — the app gets smarter for you specifically.
Does it support custom foods or recipes?
Yes. Snap a photo of any home recipe once and Trace saves it as a reusable meal. You can also build recipes from ingredients with their own macros — useful for meal preppers cooking in batches.
Is there a desktop or web version?
Mobile only for now (iOS and Android). The browsing experience and food lookup will land on askcalories.com as a companion in 2026 — but the AI logging stays mobile-first because that's where the camera is.
