Privacy Policy

The 30-second version

• Meal photos are uploaded and retained with their analysis and saved food entry.
• Website AI previews send your meal description for processing but do not save it to an account or meal log. A validated estimate may be cached for up to 30 days so the same normalized query does not require another AI call.
• Your meal log, body details, goals, and progress are stored on our servers.
• AskCalories does not currently provide in-app data export or account deletion controls.

What we collect

To make AskCalories work, we collect:

• Meal data: what you logged, when, and the estimated calories and macros.
• Website preview input: the meal description you submit for an AI estimate, a non-reversible keyed query hash, the resulting meal and nutrition estimate cached for up to 30 days, and a short-lived keyed hash of the connection address used to enforce daily limits.
• Photos: uploaded for AI analysis and retained with the analysis and food entry.
• Voice input: the device speech-recognition service transcribes microphone input into text that you can send in chat.
• Account info: a device-bound account identifier and authentication credentials created during onboarding.
• Device info: OS version, app version, anonymous device ID for crash reporting.
• Body and goal data: age, sex, height, weight, activity level, and nutrition targets entered in onboarding or profile settings.

What we don't collect

How we use it

We use this data to analyze and save app meal entries, return website estimates, enforce free-use limits, calculate daily summaries, show recent progress, operate subscriptions, provide support, and improve service reliability.

Photo and voice processing

When you submit a meal photo, it is uploaded to our storage and sent through an AI processing provider. The image and analysis are retained so the saved entry can continue to reference the submitted photo. Microphone input is converted to text by the device speech-recognition service; text you send is processed as a chat message.

Website AI previews

When the website's factual food calculator cannot answer a mixed-meal description, you can choose an AI estimate. The description is sent to our AI processing provider, but AskCalories does not create an account, analysis record, or meal-log entry from that website request. We cache the validated estimate for up to 30 days under a keyed hash of the normalized query, response language, model, and schema version. The cache does not store the raw description as a separate field or include an account identifier; its derived result can include meal and food names based on your description and can be reused by the website or app. A date-scoped keyed hash of the connection address is retained briefly to enforce the free daily allowance.

Security

We use access controls and transport security intended to protect data in transit and at rest. AskCalories does not claim end-to-end encryption, and no internet service can guarantee absolute security.

Sharing

We use service providers needed to operate the app, including AI processing, cloud storage, native payment processing, analytics, and error monitoring. Contact us for current details about subprocessors or regional privacy rights.

Your rights

AskCalories does not currently expose export or account-deletion controls in the app. Email privacy@nextdio.com to request access, correction, export, or deletion under applicable privacy law. We will verify the request and explain any data we must retain for legal, security, or billing reasons.

Children

AskCalories is not intended for users under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If this policy materially changes, we'll notify you in-app and via email at least 30 days before the change takes effect.
