The 30-second version

  • Photos you snap are processed by AI and discarded — never stored long-term, never used to train models.
  • Your meal log, weight, and macros are encrypted on our servers.
  • We don't sell or share your data with advertisers.
  • You can export or delete everything in one tap from settings.

What we collect

To make AskCalories work, we collect:

  • Meal data: what you logged, when, and macros. Stored encrypted.
  • Photos: processed by AI for food recognition. Discarded after processing — not stored on our servers.
  • Voice recordings: transcribed by AI for voice logging. Audio discarded; transcript stored as a meal entry.
  • Account info: email and authentication tokens. No password stored — we use Sign in with Apple, Google, or magic link.
  • Device info: OS version, app version, anonymous device ID for crash reporting.
  • Health data (optional): if you enable Apple Health or Google Fit sync, weight and exercise data flow into the app.

What we don't collect

  • Location data
  • Contacts, photos library access (we only access what you snap)
  • Browsing history
  • Advertising IDs

How we use it

Solely to provide the service: log meals, calculate macros, sync across your devices, and send you optional reminders. That's it.

Photo and voice processing

When you snap a photo or speak a meal, the data is sent to our AI processing pipeline (operated via third-party AI processing providers bound by data-processing agreements). After processing, the photo or audio is deleted from our servers immediately. The resulting meal entry (e.g., "chicken breast, 4 oz") is what we store.

Encryption

Meal data is encrypted at rest with AES-256 and in transit with TLS 1.3. Your account email is hashed for lookup; we never see your password (we don't have one).

Sharing

We don't sell your data. Period. We share with service providers only when necessary: third-party AI processing providers, payment processing (Stripe, RevenueCat), error monitoring (Sentry), and analytics (anonymous, no IDs). Each is bound by data-processing agreements.

Your rights

From the app settings:

  • Export: download all your data as JSON or CSV.
  • Delete: wipe all your data. Takes effect immediately and we have 7 days to remove backups.
  • Pause sync: use the app locally without server sync.

You can also email privacy@nextdio.com to exercise GDPR / CCPA / other regional rights.

Children

AskCalories is not intended for users under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If this policy materially changes, we'll notify you in-app and via email at least 30 days before the change takes effect.
