Calorie tracker for vegan diets

Use this guide to plan what you want to track for vegan diet. AskCalories can estimate a meal from a photo or description, but the result is an editable estimate rather than a measurement or medical recommendation.

Why tracking actually helps here

  • Plant proteins are less calorie-dense per gram of protein — adequacy needs deliberate tracking
  • Vitamin B12 must come from supplements or fortified foods on vegan
  • Iron from plants (non-heme) is less bioavailable; pair with vitamin C
  • Omega-3 (EPA/DHA) from algae oil or flax/chia
  • High-fiber, lower-calorie foods can mean accidental undereating

How AskCalories helps

  • Photo meal estimates

Choose a meal photo and AskCalories estimates the visible foods, portions, calories, and macros for you to review.

  • Text and speech-to-text

Describe a meal in chat by typing or using the microphone, then send it for an editable nutrition estimate.

  • Editable calories and macros

Correct the meal name, serving count, calories, protein, carbs, fat, and fiber before the entry is saved.

Tips that actually help

  • Combine plant proteins

Beans + grains, nuts + legumes, etc. — covers the full amino acid profile. Doesn't need to be in the same meal; daily coverage is what matters.

FAQ

What can AskCalories analyze?
AskCalories can estimate calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, and portion size from a meal photo or a written description. AI estimates are not measurements, so review and edit them before saving.
Can I use voice input?
Yes. Tap the microphone in chat to transcribe what you ate, review the text, and send it. Voice input requires an internet connection and is not a background or hands-free mode.
Can I correct an estimate?
Yes. Before saving a meal you can edit its name, category, serving count, calories, protein, carbs, fat, and fiber.
What progress does the app show?
The Today view compares logged calories and macros with your daily targets. Progress includes 7- and 30-day calorie and protein charts plus the number of days logged.
Does AskCalories replace a dietitian or medical device?
No. AskCalories provides estimates for general nutrition awareness. Do not use AI-estimated nutrition for medication dosing or as a substitute for professional medical guidance.
Do I need to create a named account?
No signup form is required. The app creates a device-bound account during onboarding so it can save and sync your entries.
