Calorie tracker for muscle gain & bulking
Building muscle requires three things: progressive resistance training, sufficient protein, and a small calorie surplus. Without tracking, most lifters either undereat (slow gains) or overeat (excess fat gain).
CalPilot is engineered for lean bulks — enough surplus to build muscle, not so much that you spend the next cut undoing the damage.
Why tracking actually helps here
- A 200–300 kcal surplus is enough for 0.5–1 lb/week of lean gain at most natural rates
- Protein needs are typically 0.8–1.0g per lb of bodyweight for natural lifters
- Without tracking, most "bulks" are actually maintenance + fat gain in disguise
- Macro tracking lets you partition gains better than calories alone
- Weekly weight trend tells you whether your surplus is dialed in
How CalPilot helps
Lean surplus calculator
Set your training experience and we suggest a surplus that maximizes muscle gain without runaway fat (~200–300 kcal for natural lifters).
Protein-first tracking
Daily protein target is the most important number for muscle gain. We surface it prominently — calories are secondary.
Fast logging for high-volume eaters
Eating 3,500 kcal/day means 5–6 meals. Photo + voice logging keeps that practical instead of a part-time job.

Tips that actually help
Don't chase the daily target perfectly
Muscle gain runs on a weekly average, not daily. Hit your protein floor every day; let calories average out across the week.
Track training-day vs rest-day separately
Many lifters do calorie cycling — higher carbs on training days, lower on rest. CalPilot supports custom day-of-week macros.
If gains stall, raise calories before raising training volume
Plateau usually means undereating, not undertraining. Add 100–200 kcal/day for 2 weeks before adjusting program.
