CalPilot vs Lose It!
Calorie tracker focused on weight loss with budgeted daily targets.
Lose It! has been around since 2008 and pioneered the daily calorie budget UX — you get a daily target, eat, and watch the budget shrink. It's a clean mental model and helped millions lose weight.
The app added a feature called Snap It (photo logging) in 2020, but it's gated behind Premium ($39.99/yr) and accuracy lags newer AI models. Voice logging isn't supported.
CalPilot uses the same daily-budget model but bakes AI photo and voice logging into the free tier with significantly higher accuracy on mixed dishes.
Side-by-side
Why CalPilot
Better photo accuracy
Lose It! Snap It launched in 2020 and the model hasn't kept pace. CalPilot uses 2026-era vision models that are roughly 2x more accurate on mixed dishes.
Macros without paying
Protein, carbs, fat, fiber — visible in the free tier. Lose It! locks all macro tracking behind their $39.99/yr Premium plan.
Voice logging
For meals you can't photograph (driving, walking, hands-deep in cooking), voice is the only practical input. Lose It! doesn't offer it.
- Clean daily-budget UX that helped popularize the category
- Strong community challenges (a real selling point)
- Polished onboarding flow for first-time dieters
- Reasonable annual pricing
- × Snap It photo accuracy is meaningfully behind newer AI models
- × Macro tracking gated behind Premium
- × Voice logging not supported
- × Database is smaller than MFP and skews user-submitted
You like the daily-budget model but want logging fast enough that you actually stick with it. You also want to track macros without paying — important if your goal is muscle gain or recomposition, not just weight loss.
You've already built a 6+ month streak on Lose It! and the community challenges are part of why you keep going. The friction is real but the social pull is stronger.
Verdict
Lose It! is a fine product if it's working for you. If you're shopping for a tracker, CalPilot has materially better photo accuracy, voice logging, free macros, and the same annual price. The mental model is identical — daily budget, log meals, watch progress — so the switch is low-friction.
